Vision from Sistine Chapel
by Truitt Seitz
Mixed Media on Paper
7” x 10”
“Vision from Sistine Chapel” is a small mixed media work composed from my imagination after a visit to the Vatican. In Michelangelo’s “Last Judgment”, figures rise and fall (figuratively and metaphorically) against a backdrop of a heavenly, luminous, blue sky. It occurred to me while gazing at this fresco, that this “acrobatic pose” of rising and falling in the air - of just managing to grasp the rope or trapeze - was uniquely indicative of our human condition in which we take risks, stumble, stand up, and try again.
