No. 13 (Broken Vanitas)
by Kenneth Steinbach
Ink Drawings suspended in layers of polyester resin on plywood
8” x 11”
This work is from a series that explores the realm between absence and presence, as ink drawings embedded in glowing layers of semi-transparent resin appear to float meditatively before you. The drawings are built up, one layer at a time, each layer of drawing covered over by a following layer. Each work in the series contains from 6 to 25 layers of drawings and resin. The resultant fields of images explore ideas such as repetition and individuality, harmony and dissonance, memory and latency, meaning and disorder. Simultaneously manifest while fleeting, they stand as questions regarding the weight and worth of our existence.
