This is a portrait of Kathy Hettinga. It is one of a long series of paintings done with the model in one sitting from 1990-1992. I thought it might be appropriate for this auction since Kathy has been an important contributor and designer of the CIVA SEEN journal.
Catherine Prescott taught painting and drawing at Messiah College for 20 years. Her work was one of 51 finalists chosen from over 4,000 entries for the 2006 Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition at the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian, Washington D.C. Most recently she was awarded a $5000 Individual Artist’s Fellowship from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Her portraits are known for their psychological depth and insight.
